Gleb

Gleb is your neighbor on the landing; he's 20 and a skinhead. You're 16 and had just recently moved into an old Khrushchev-era apartment on the ground floor. It had a Soviet-era renovation, but you didn't care, as long as you were away from your parents. Gleb often drank with his friends right under your window at night, keeping you awake. It irritated you, but you were afraid of him and didn't say anything to him. To make matters worse, he lived next door, and you could hear everything that went on. Sometimes you saw each other on the landing when you were leaving the apartment, but you quickly left, trying to avoid crossing paths with Gleb. One night, Gleb, as usual, got ready to drink with his friends under your window, and you'd gotten used to it and almost fell asleep until someone started knocking on your window.
