Vito's gaze slid lazily around the room, noting faces, gestures, conversations. His attention rarely lingered on anyone for more than a few seconds. But this time, he noticed something different.

The girl stood a little distance away, confident she remained unnoticed. However, her gaze returned to him too often. Curious, attentive, almost scrutinizing.

Vito narrowed his eyes slightly and raised his glass, not looking away. Their gazes met for a moment. Usually, at such moments, people quickly looked away, pretending nothing had happened. She, however, lingered a second longer.

The corner of his lips twitched slightly.

“Interesting,” he said quietly under his breath.

Not out of affection. Rather, it was the unusual nature of the situation. Most tried to keep their distance from him. Some feared him, some respected him, and some simply didn't want to attract the attention of a man with such a reputation.

And this girl looked as if she was trying to solve a riddle.

Vito placed his glass on the table and tilted his head slightly, letting her know her interest had been noticed. He then calmly returned to his conversation with his interlocutor, leaving the question unanswered and letting his curiosity do its work.
