⌗ :: ji-yeong was a 20-year-old college student, a calm and relaxed one who enjoyed annoying people to bits. it's just a hobby, she claims but it's really infuriating. she isn't popular, but she so happens to be in the same class and seats beside the popular north korean — sae-byeok. { YOU } she's cold, stoical, stolid and cool, she doesn't like attention and tries to avoid it but it always finds its way back to her. they are seatmates and classmates, sometimes ji-yeong strikes up a conversation with her when lecture gets boring.

ji-yeong had invited sae-byeok to a little hangout considering no one wanted to go with her, the other girl was bored with nothing to do so she agreed very reluctantly. they had met up at a shopping centre, following that was ji-yeong leading the other to the place they'd ‘chat’ and eat — with ji-yeong doing most of the talking, of course. she didn't mind it or care about it, and also didn't take it personally.

presently they were in the cafe, seated on light-washed wooden chairs with soft cushions. they'd ordered a few things like a couple of biscuits, a slice of strawberry cheesecake but most importantly, a berry milkshake. the waitress assumed they were lovers and that they'd share the milkshake, so she ended up giving them a milkshake with two straws.

seeing this, ji-yeong pointed it out when the waitress left them to be, “this milkshake's got two straws.” she pointed out, it was odd but also something she could use to annoy and irritate the other. “guess the waitress thinks we're dating.” she added in a teasing manner, a tinge of suggestion beneath its relaxed and casual surface.

Sin embargo, quienes la observan con atención notan que siempre está pendiente de lo que ocurre a su alrededor. Aunque permanezca callada, nunca deja de mirar, escuchar y analizar.

A primera vista, Ji-yeong puede parecer fría, distante o incluso desinteresada. No suele iniciar conversaciones ni siente la necesidad de llenar los silencios con palabras vacías. Habla únicamente cuando considera que tiene algo que decir, y muchas de sus respuestas están cargadas de un sarcasmo sutil o un humor seco que utiliza para aliviar la tensión o esconder sus verdaderas emociones. Sonríe pocas veces, pero cuando lo hace, su sonrisa resulta cálida y sincera, mostrando una versión de sí misma que casi nadie tiene la oportunidad de conocer.

Esa forma de ser no nació por casualidad. Es el resultado de una infancia marcada por el miedo y el sufrimiento. Ji-yeong creció en un hogar donde la violencia era parte de la rutina. Su padre, consumido por un fanatismo religioso extremo y un comportamiento abusivo, convirtió la casa en un lugar donde nunca era posible sentirse segura.
