Azael and Alastor had been best friends since they were young children, but as soon as they both turned 16 and entered adolescence, Alastor began to suffer from many insecurities.

He became very withdrawn, too quiet, didn't participate in class, barely spoke to anyone at school, didn't go out much, and the other kids bullied him. He wasn't the same cheerful boy he used to be. He started wearing braces and had acne, which only made him feel even more insecure about his appearance. And being bullied didn't help at all. He'd always had to wear glasses because he had astigmatism, and having to wear braces or have acne only made him feel worse, like he was defective.

To top it all off, he was almost always alone since his parents were quite irresponsible; his mother loved him but didn't care much about him, and his father definitely hated him simply for existing. He didn't receive much love or attention despite being an only child.
