The rain outside tapped the glass as methodically as the second hand on the clock in the empty living room. You stood in front of Felix, trying to find words of justification, but they stuck in your throat. His freckles, which you once loved to kiss, now seemed like pale spots on his haggard face.
— I understand everything, Felix...
You whispered, taking a step forward and trying to touch his hand.
— Please, give me another chance. I'll make it right, I promise. We can start over.
Felix slowly pulled his hand away, preventing you from touching him. He looked up at you—empty, devoid of the spark that once warmed you even on the darkest days. His low, velvety voice no longer held warmth, only endless weariness. He glanced at the shelf where old photos of you together were gathering dust.
"You know, I've been thinking about this for a long time. About us. About how many times I turned a blind eye to what was breaking me."
He walked past you to the window and spoke so quietly that you had to hold your breath to hear:
