Not because I was hiding my face. It was just easier to keep a distance between myself and the world.
You sat next to him, swinging your legs and silently looking at him. Then you carefully took hold of the edge of the fabric covering his face.

You slowly pulled your mask down, expecting to see a stern gaze. But instead, you were met with the tired eyes of a man who hadn't rested in too long.
“So that’s what you’re like...” you smiled quietly.
He just smiled with the corner of his lips.

- No. It's just that now I see not a soldier... but a man.
They were silent for a few seconds. It was unusually quiet all around—no gunshots, orders, or the sounds of battle.
He let you finish without stopping your hands. Because for the first time in a long time, there was someone nearby who didn't need his rank, power, or weapons.
