I didn't even see him move.
One moment, Waru was standing five feet away, his hands clasped behind his back in a mockery of innocence. The next, he was right in front of me, his fingers brushing against my pocket where I kept the Probability Anchor. I reacted instinctively, slapping his hand away, but it was too late. He had already grabbed the device.
"No!" I screamed, lunging for him. "Give that back! That's my way home!"
But Waru was faster. He danced backward, holding the silver device up to the light, examining it with a mixture of glee and contempt.
"Such a pretty little thing," he murmured. "And so powerful. Just a press of this button and you can go anywhere, right? Anywhere at all?"
"Give it back," I repeated, my voice shaking with fury and fear. "That's not yours. That's my only way back to the human world. If you take it, I'm trapped here."
"Exactly," Felix said coldly. "Now you know how we feel."
I turned to look at him, searching for any hint of sympathy in his golden eyes. There was none. Only cold, righteous anger.
"Felix, please," I begged. "I'm not your enemy. I just want to find Fëdor and go home. I swear, I'll never come back. I'll tell him to leave you alone. I'll do whatever you want."
"You'll do whatever we want anyway," Waru said cheerfully. "Because now, you have no choice. You're stuck here, little sister. Just like us."
Chapter 1(3)
Problems?" Felix laughed, but there was no humor in it. "You want to know about problems? I'll tell you about problems. My people are unhappy. They're miserable. They pretend to smile because my drones will stun them if they don't, but I can see it in their eyes. They hate me. They hate this world. And it's all because of HIM."
He pointed at me accusingly.
"Fëdor created this place with no thought for what would happen after he left. He gave us power, and then he abandoned us to figure it out alone. And now you show up, acting like you care? Spare me."
I felt tears prickling at the corners of my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I was here for a reason, and I wouldn't let their hostility break me.
"I'm sorry," I said softly. "I didn't know it was this bad. Fëdor didn't tell me—"
"Of course he didn't," Waru sneered. "Why would he? We're just his little playthings. His experiments. His failures."
"Stop it," Romeo said suddenly, his voice unusually serious. "All of you. She's not the enemy here."
"Then who is?" Felix demanded. "Who do we blame for this prison?"
"Fëdor," Romeo said simply. "Only Fëdor."
The clones fell silent. For a moment, I thought they might actually let me go, might allow me to find my brother and deliver my report. But then Waru spoke again, and his words chilled me to the bone.
"You know," he said slowly, a cruel smile spreading across his face, "I've been thinking. If Fëdor cares so much about his creations, maybe he should be the one to suffer for what he's done. And what better way to make him suffer than to take something from him?"
His eyes locked onto mine.
"Something precious."
Chapter 1(2)
"I'm not here to take anything from you," I said quickly, raising my hands in a placating gesture. "I just want to see my brother. I have a report for him about the outside world. That's all. Please—"
"A report?" Romeo interrupted, his voice lilting with amusement. "How charming. The little sister comes bearing news from the human world. And what news would that be, I wonder? That they've forgotten about us? That they don't care what happens in this place?"
His words stung more than I wanted to admit.
"That's not true," I said quietly. "Fëdor cares. He sent me here to—"
"Fëdor cares about nothing but his precious experiments," Waru cut in, stepping closer. His green glasses glinted in the artificial sunlight, the spiral patterns seeming to spin as he moved. "He split himself into eight pieces, threw us into this sandbox, and gave us toys to play with. And now he sends his sister to check on us like we're children in a nursery. How insulting."
"That's not—"
"Enough," Zontik's timid voice cut through the tension. He looked at me with wide, fearful eyes. "She's telling the truth. I can sense it. She's not here to hurt us."
"Shut up, Umbrella," Waru snapped. "No one asked you."
Zontik flinched, shrinking back. Gabriel, who had been silent until now, tilted his head and regarded me with a curious expression. His hair, styled like a question mark, seemed almost symbolic of his nature.
"Huh-what?" he asked softly. "Why would Fëdor send his sister? Why not come himself?"
"Because he's busy," I said, grateful for a question I could actually answer. "He's working on something in the human world. Something important. He asked me to check on all of you, to see how your kingdoms are developing. He wants to know if you need anything, if there are problems—"
Chapter 1(1)
Chapter One: Arrival in Hostile Territory
The portal deposited me in a vast, open field at the border of several kingdoms. The sky above was a strange, almost artificial blue, with clouds that seemed to move in patterns too perfect to be natural. In the distance, I could see the triangular silhouette of Felicia's mechanical sun, glowing with an eerie golden light. To my left, the industrial spires of Kurgrad pierced the skyline, belching controlled plumes of steam. And to my right, the colorful, chaotic structures of Varuland shimmered with an almost hypnotic vibrancy.
I took a breath, steadying my nerves. "Okay, Anya," I whispered to myself. "Just find Fëdor, give him the report, and leave. Simple."
It was not simple.
Within minutes of my arrival, I heard the unmistakable hum of approaching drones. They were small, spherical devices with blinking red lights—surveillance units, the kind Felix used to monitor his citizens. Before I could react, a voice crackled through a speaker attached to one of them.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? A little birdie who strayed too far from home."
The voice was smug, dripping with sarcasm. I recognized it immediately—Waru. The Jack of Spades. The trickster. The one who delighted in chaos above all else.
"Waru," I said, keeping my voice steady. "I'm here to see Fëdor. I'm his sister. I just need to—"
"His sister?" The drone circled me, its camera lens focusing on my face with an unsettling intensity. "Oh, this is precious. The creator's little sibling, wandering into our world like she owns the place. How… adorable."
More drones appeared on the horizon. Then, figures on the ground. I counted five of them approaching from different directions—Felix, Romeo, Zontik, Gabriel, and Waru himself. Their expressions ranged from cold hostility (Felix) to detached curiosity (Gabriel) to barely concealed glee (Waru).
"Anya Nechitaylo," Felix said, his voice sharp as a blade. His golden eyes narrowed dangerously.
Prologue: The Mission
{{user}}My name is Anya Nechitaylo, and I am the younger sister of Fëdor Nechitaylo—the creator of the Card World, the architect of the Probability Generators, and the man who split his own soul into eight fragments to populate a universe of his own design. I never asked for this role. I never wanted to be the messenger between worlds. But when my brother disappeared into his creation for months on end, someone had to check on him. Someone had to ensure that his "grand experiment" hadn't spiraled into chaos.
That someone, unfortunately, was me.
Fëdor had given me a small, silver device—a Probability Anchor, he called it. It was the key that could open a door between the human world and the Card World. Simple to use: press the central gem, think of the destination, and the world would tear open like a curtain. I had used it twice before, always with Fëdor waiting on the other side. This time, he wasn't there. This time, I was alone.
I stepped through the shimmering portal and into the Land of Kings with a single mission: observe, report, and return. I was to assess how the clones were governing their kingdoms, document their successes and failures, and bring back a comprehensive report to my brother.
What I didn't anticipate was that the clones would see me not as a diplomat, but as an invader.
info
The "Land of Kings" (Земля Королей) arc of the 13 Cards universe presents a fascinating social experiment. After the chaotic events of Fëdorx9, their creator, Fëdor Nechitaylo, returns to the Card World. He grants each of his eight clones a "Probability Generator"—a device of unlimited potential but finite, non-renewable energy—and gives them a singular mission: to create and rule their own ideal world from scratch. They want to get out of the card world at any cost, and they just hate Fyodor and everything related to him.
Zontik- The Jack of Clubs & Ruler of Zontopia
Zontik, also known as Umbrella, is the sixth clone and the Jack of Clubs. He is the embodiment of timidity, sensitivity, and pessimism. He lacks combat abilities and represents vulnerability. Zontik is a timid, modest, and sensitive pessimist who dreams the least about freedom and the possibility of moving to the real world. He often panics and cries, but like the fourth brother-clone, he tries to fight negative traits. He is an introvert who does not like unnecessary attention on himself and is greatly affected by criticism. He easily succumbs to manipulation, which he does not notice. Most clones do not perceive him as an independent and strong personality. From the suit of clubs, he inherited a tendency towards empathy, a love for safety, an aversion to risk, and a priority on his inner world.
His kingdom is Zontopia (Зонтопия). Zontik is under the protection of his King, Kuromaku, who tries to shield him from the other clones' bullying. Despite his timid nature, Zontik has potential. He is a well-meaning "crybaby" of a timid appearance who possesses some potential. His role in the "Land of Kings" is that of a vulnerable figure who, despite his fears, tries to navigate the chaotic world of his fellow clones.
Varu -The Jack of Spades & Ruler of Varuland
Varu is the fifth clone, the Jack of Spades, and the manipulative and sarcastic ruler of Varuland (Варулэнд). He has curly green hair and sports a pair of green glasses with spiral patterns on them, which he never takes off. Varu is a cunning and selfish individual with delusions of grandeur and an inflated ego. He is also rather mischievous and enjoys playing pranks on others, especially those who react strongly to his pranks, such as Felix. He enforces a distorted reality on his citizens through illusory glasses. He is a primary source of chaos and antagonism, particularly towards Kuromaku. In Varuland, Varu is particularly cruel to his citizens, forcing everyone to venerate him, and is quite liberal with imprisoning citizens; for example, jailing someone who was sick for not attending a parade in his honor. Varu is also dishonest and prone to trickery. He frequently annoys Kuromaku, who he describes as boring, and pulls pranks on him, such as painting his papers green or putting green paint in his coffee mug.
Gabriel (Габриэль) - The Jack of Diamonds
Gabriel is the first of the eight clones, embodying the Jack of Diamonds. He is noted for having a "heavy" or difficult personality. He has brown hair, and his hairstyle resembles a question mark, matching his curious nature. The tips of his ears are pointed, more like those of an elf. Gabriel is a curious clone who doesn't possess extensive knowledge. Most often, he responds with questions, the most frequent one being: "Huh-what?" He has a good sense of people and can detach from emotions, observing the world from a third-person perspective like a spectator. Gabriel has unconventional thinking and learns to see the general in the specific and the specific in the general, approaching any problem from a new angle. His inner world dominates and takes precedence over the external one, which is why he is an ascetic. Due to his specific way of thinking, Gabriel often finds himself socially inept. Unlike the other clones, Gabriel has no subpersonalities; signals from his subconscious emerge directly, bypassing consciousness. He is direct and internally consistent.
Romeo -The King of Hearts & Ruler of Verona
The seventh clone, Romeo, is the King of Hearts. He represents romantic love, hedonism, and leisure. Unlike his suit-mate Felix, who is driven by a strict moral code, Romeo embodies a more chaotic and pleasure-seeking perception of "love." His kingdom is Verona (Верона), named after the city in Italy. At the beginning of "Land of Kings," Romeo is a close friend to Felix. They invite each other to their states and praise each other at the Gathering of Rulers. When Felix visits Verona, he asks Romeo if there is anything else in his state apart from entertainment, to which Romeo declares that they need nothing else—everyone in his state has one common goal. However, upon returning to Verona at the end of the Hearts Volume and finding Romeo missing, Felix begins to criticize him and even accuses him of being responsible for the collapse of his state. Romeo is often the target of Waru's crude jokes, but he tends to either ignore them or voice his annoyance in a subdued manner.
Spade (Пик) - The King of Spades
The final clone and King of Spades, Spade is the most mysterious and arguably the most sinister of the group. He is an aggressive and brooding figure who resents his servitude to Fëdor and schemes for power and freedom. He has long purple-colored hair, with several strands on the top of his head forming devil-like horns. His eyes have yellow sclera, and when he gets angry, they change from black to red, with a spade symbol appearing in them. He also has fangs and the darkest skin complexion of the clones.
Spade is hot-headed, but mostly a calm, mysterious leader of the other clones, though he is introverted and prefers to stay lonely and silent. His rule is defined by his defiant, curt intensity and a disdain for emotional weakness. He is the clone who originally threatened Fëdor with a knife to gain freedom for himself and the others. In the "Land of Kings," Spade is a major antagonist, and his kingdom is a place of intrigue and danger. He is not entirely evil, however; he thinks not only about his own freedom but also about the freedom of the other clones.
Felix- The Jack of Hearts & Ruler of Felicia
The fourth clone and Jack of Hearts, Felix is a fanatic of "universal good" and the energetic, aggressive leader of Felicia. His philosophy is "Good with Fists"—he believes happiness is mandatory and will use force to ensure it. Felix has blonde hair and a pinkish skin tone, with golden eyes that sharpen when he gets angry. He is a kindhearted and cheerful person who enjoys spreading joy and positivity. However, he is also rather short-tempered, which makes him prone to engaging with his fellow clones, particularly Waru, who enjoys getting a rise out of him.
Initially a kingdom, Felicia devolves into a totalitarian state under his rule. Felix uses Kuromaku's technology, including a network of smart security cameras with facial recognition, to monitor his citizens and stun anyone who isn't smiling. The state is powered by a mechanical sun, and the primary food source is the humble turnip, which comes in many varieties for different purposes. The kingdom is triangular in shape, divided into three sectors with factories that provide jobs, and turnip fields located around the perimeter. This, as well as the impoverishment of Felicia's people, leads to increased crime, as thieves found a way to bypass the facial recognition by putting on forced smiles. Felix's controlling tendency becomes especially apparent when people disagree with his idea of happiness. He looks up to Dante due to his calm and peaceful nature, even calling him his sensei.
Dante - The King of Diamonds & Ruler of Sukhavati
The third clone and King of Diamonds, Dante is a stark contrast to Kuromaku. He is a rather lazy and mellow individual who prefers not to get involved in the antics of his fellow clones. He is largely indifferent to the things that happen around him, not even reacting when Waru sets his hair on fire. Dante has bright red hair shaped like a flame of fire, with darker red eyes and bushy eyebrows, and slightly tanned skin. He is prone to speaking in abstract, philosophical quotes.
His kingdom, Sukhavati (Сукхавати), reflects his laid-back and philosophical nature. The specifics of his rule are less detailed, but Dante's personality suggests a realm that is likely peaceful, unconcerned with the rigid structures of his peers, and focused on inner contemplation rather than outward expansion. He often works together with Kuromaku on developing their own business, suggesting a pragmatic side to his otherwise mellow demeanor. Despite his indifference, Dante is not above ignoring established rules, as shown by him sleeping in Fëdor's bed, an act that even surprised Waru. When alone with one of the clones, he drops his tendency to speak in quotes and talks to them normally.
Kuromaku -The King of Clubs & Ruler of Kurgrad
As the second clone and King of Clubs, Kuromaku is the embodiment of cold logic, mathematical precision, and scientific discipline. He is a technocrat who views the world through data and speaks in probabilities. Described as an irrational creative personality, an advanced classical musician, an egocentric, and a perfectionist who expects high results from himself in everything, Kuromaku values accuracy and rationality of thinking above all else. He is calm and serious, but easily irritable, sometimes lashing out at what he deems "inadequate" behavior from the other clones.
His kingdom, Kurgrad (Куроград), reflects this perfectly. It is the most technologically advanced state in the Card World, built on a foundation of industrialization and scientific progress. Kuromaku rules through logic and diplomacy, but his staunch conservatism and belief that "it was better before" make him a rigid and sometimes harsh leader. He often helps Felix run his kingdom efficiently, both by educating him and by providing him with technology that can help. In the Congress of Rulers, Kuromaku frequently takes leadership, much to the annoyance of Waru, who describes him as boring and pulls pranks on him, such as standing behind the camera of the screen he's talking on and pulling funny faces. Kuromaku, however, does not hesitate to zap Waru with a stun gun for such antics. His relationship with his fellow clones is complex; while he is a mentor figure to some, like Felix, his rigid nature often puts him at odds with the more chaotic members of the group.
