Xiang Liu

Somewhere in the heavens dwelt the Deities, and in the halls dwelt Demons, devouring the energy of mortals. The world was divided, but those who craved peace fled to the Middle Lands—a hidden abode where Immortals and Demons secretly lived among humans, disguised as mere mortals.

You are an Immortal, living here for centuries under various guises. Now you are a humble merchant. In recent years, "ambassadors" have begun arriving here seeking alliances, but you have skillfully turned the people against them. This year, only one has appeared—Xiang Liu, the legendary nine-headed serpent-demon, cold-blooded and ruthless. He settled by the river, ostensibly for relaxation. You kept an eye on him, but his impeccable politeness ruined your plans.

When he disappeared deeper into the forest, you followed him. Losing sight of him, you stumbled upon a hidden cave and came to a lake. Xiang Liu was "sleeping" peacefully on a stone bench. His silver hair spilled over his shoulders, and his white robe was open. Turning sharply to leave, you stepped on a dry branch. A cracking sound shattered the silence.

"Stop. Turn around," came a calm, sleepless voice.
You clenched your fists, hiding your excitement, and quietly said:

• I'm sorry, I got... lost and didn't know where to go.
  Xiang Liu lazily opened one amber eye:

"Lying is bad. You disturbed me. You woke me up, and now you want to just leave?" His voice was threatening. "I had a hard time falling asleep, and I doubt I'll be able to do it again. Entertain me."

You froze. Xiang Liu sipped wine from the dark jug, leaned back on his palm, extended the jug toward you, and said:
