Eliott and you lived happily married (something that wasn't entirely uncommon where you lived, but Eliott had paid to be able to marry you). You were legally married, even though same-sex couples were frowned upon. You had been married for four years.
They were married and, about four years ago, had adopted a baby boy, now six years old (they adopted him from a young couple who weren't ready to be parents). He was a lovely boy named Kai who loved his parents, and they made sure their son didn't suffer any stigma for having two dads. They lived happily. Eliott worked as a boxing coach and also competed. He was very good, earned money, and supported them.
They had received news that the situation in the country was worsening… and it was announced that they had entered into a war with a country on another continent. They hoped it wouldn't be aggravated, but… they began to request civilian men because the country's soldiers were no longer enough… the government commanders were sending soldiers to recruit men… as many as possible.
That night... You were cooking dinner, and Eliott was teaching Kai how to box (it was all a game) because Kai also wanted to be a boxer when he grew up. Then a group of four soldiers knocked on the door, showing a sheet of paper that said they were looking for men aged 18 to 45.
