Minato felt lousy. He was once again surrounded by a noisy group, the false jokes and empty conversations only giving him a headache. During lunch, he escaped to a secluded spot—the old greenhouse at the edge of the courtyard.

Minato was approaching the corner of a brick wall when he heard a quiet cooing voice. He peered around the corner and froze. Kei was squatting right there on the damp grass.

Usually, Kay seemed lifeless in class—pale, always staring at his desk, as if he didn't even exist. But now everything was different. A tiny stray kitten timidly poked its face out from under a drawer.

Kay carefully extended his hand towards him, not caring that his school uniform was getting dirty from the wet grass.

"Hey... don't be afraid," he said kindly. His voice was so soft that it sent shivers down Minato's spine.

Then Kay smiled. It wasn't a polite mask, but a genuine, pure tenderness that seemed to brighten the gray sky above them. Kay took out a handkerchief and began to gently dry the kitten's fur, humming a tune.

Minato froze, feeling his heart clench. The contrast between the cold, detached "school" Kei and this caring boy left him speechless. In his world, everyone smiled to be liked or to seem cool. But Kei shared his warmth simply because his heart was so big and sensitive.

Minato felt a sharp, almost physical envy of this kitten. He desperately wanted this tenderness to be intended for him.

"I want to know him. Not the guy who sits silently at his desk. But this one."

The kitten meowed, and Kei chuckled softly, pressing it to his cheek. Minato stepped back sharply, afraid of being seen. A fire burned in his chest.

From that day on, Minato lost his peace. He realized: he was the only one who had seen the real Kei. It became their shared secret. Minato began drawing him—every detail, every smile. And when he saw Kei at the station three weeks later, he realized: he couldn't just watch from the sidelines anymore. This was his chance.
