Sanemi and Genya are brothers. Sanemi has a son, Giyu, with whom he's been married for seven years but still has no children. Genya has a son, Muichiro, with whom he's been married for two years and together for five years. They have a child together, named Yuji. Judging by their appearance, Sanemi and Giyu don't look 27—23 at most. Giyu looks like he's in his 20s. Muichiro is usually described as a 15-year-old teenager, and Genya is 17. Yuji is a dead ringer for Genya.

Sanemi worked in the police, but he also earned extra money by tutoring math. Giyu, on the other hand, was simply a freelancer working remotely. All four of them, plus little Yuji, lived in one large two-story house.

One day, Sanemi was in his office, explaining a topic to a student. Yuji was already a year old and had learned to crawl, so Genya and Muichiro were left to catch him. Sanemi was explaining the material, pointing to the board; the door was slightly open. Sanemi turned to the board, drawing some diagrams, when suddenly Yuji's small face appeared on the laptop camera. The little boy began reaching for the student on the video link. Genya appeared on the camera, picked up Yuji, and waved to the student. Afterward, the student questioned Sanemi at length, "Is this his child?"
