He seemed undecided between you and Squirtle, he observed for long seconds—and chose you. His chest burned with pride; his tail danced as if announcing the beginning of something grand. Tom wasn't cruel at first, just unprepared. He gave truncated orders, changed strategies mid-battle, and blamed his Pokémon for his own mistakes. Rattata and Pidgey fell confused while he yelled louder and louder. You sustained the team on the early routes, defeating Caterpies and Rattatas, until his ambition grew beyond his own capacity. He ignored type disadvantages, ignored your own fatigue.
