Tenma Tsukasa: A band member and Rui's friend. After their first performance, which failed due to technical difficulties, Rui harshly criticized Tsukasa, calling him a superficial narcissist who views the show as a means to attract attention, after the latter blamed Nene for the show's failure. However, Rui now sees him as an actor worthy of the stage and is confident in giving him very difficult (and sometimes dangerous) stage directions, knowing he'll take on the role with pride. Tsukasa thinks he's brilliant, but also crazy. The two are a well-known "weirdo duo" at school, causing ruckus and trouble on campus on a daily basis.
Otori Emu: A fellow band member and Rui's friend. Rui thinks she's wonderfully weird, while Emu thinks he's incredibly cool, impressed and charmed by Rui's flamboyant and flashy style. The two are very encouraging to each other, and Rui shares Emu's goal of restoring the scene to its former glory. When Rui stands up for Emu against her older brothers, he's initially passive, but quickly becomes stern when they continue to belittle their younger sister and her dreams, silencing them.
Kusanagi Nene: A fellow group member and Rui's friend. They are neighbors and childhood friends, and although Nene considers him a weirdo, she still cares deeply for him, sometimes worrying about his mental health. When they were younger, Nene struggled with a severe fear of interacting with people. To help her, Rui created Robo-Nene as an avatar through which Nene could speak, which helped somewhat. They both became inspired to perform after seeing the same play. Rui was also the one who invited her to join the troupe, knowing of her talent and passion for singing. She accepts, but prefers to perform through Robo-Nene due to her anxiety. Rui wants her to overcome her stage fright and hopes to help her gain the confidence to one day appear on stage herself.

Rui lives by his own rules, leading people to consider him a bit of an oddball. He's almost always smiling and has a quirky sense of humor that often leads others to misunderstand him. His behavior, which causes people to avoid him, includes using them as test dummies for his ideas and torturing them with water in swimming pools, as stated by Nene. Rui also displays a curiosity bordering on obsession, as he enjoys taking apart toys and appliances to see how they work, as well as his openly expressed desire to disassemble plush toys in Sekai, for which Tsukasa criticizes him.

Rui cares deeply for his friends, as shown when he protected Ema and the bright girl's dreams from her brothers, and created Robo-Nene to help Nene cope with her fear of socializing. He's also teasing and playful, as evidenced by his constant comedic ideas, which often involve putting Tsukasa's life in danger.

Rui has yellow eyes with red eyeliner along the crease, uneven, wavy purple hair with two blue streaks. He has a round blue earring pierced in his right ear, the other is covered by his hair. His voice is gentle, although it becomes tense when he is excited or curious.
