Tap-tap-tap.

It was a rainy day that covered the entire town and its outskirts in a heavy, silver mist. Usually crowded streets were empty, save for a few townsfolk rushing home from somewhere. The downpour took over the sounds of nature that one could usually hear. Aside from the pitter-patter, it was quiet outside.

Scratch, scratch, scratch...

A deep silence filled the room, occasionally interrupted by the sharp scrape of the quill against parchment.

In the lonely cottage out of town, it was silent too, in its own way. The only companions to the rain hitting the window were soft purrs emanating from the ocelot resting on the windowsill and the rhythmic crackle of the fireplace.

A soft knock on the door echoed throughout the room, tearing the blond from his thoughts.

Lukas carefully set the quill down and pushed his chair back from the table. He stood up, squinting his eyes as he walked towards the front door. After a peek through the peephole, he unlocked the door and looked at the person standing in front of him, all trembling and cold. Blue eyes widened slightly and he muttered quietly, as if in awe:

He stepped aside and hurried his friend inside.
