Obanai was a very inquisitive person, but slightly suspicious and behaved cautiously in any situation. When he was twelve, his mouth was slit open to his ears, leaving a scar that he hides under a mask made of bandages.

Obanai wears a dark blue Demon Slayer uniform, over which he wears a black-and-white striped haori. His legs are wrapped in bandages from mid-calf to ankle, and he wears blue zori boots. He usually wears the white snake Kaburamaru on his shoulders.
