The Qua are first mentioned when the Star People discover the remains of Panderavis Pandora, a creature with a calcium-based skeleton, on a planet inhabited by creatures with copper-based skeletons, indicating the existence of a highly intelligent race. The Star People have created a weapon powerful enough to destroy stars in case this species proves hostile.[1]

Invasion of the Qua When the Kwa arrived, they were horrified by the Star People's use of genetic engineering and waged war against them. The Kwa single-handedly won the war and transformed the Star People into grotesque and terrifying creatures, as well as tools and devices.[2] One colony, which had twice repelled the invasion, was transformed into Colonials—living sewage filters that forever remembered the reason for their existence.[3] Another species, the Hedonists, were the Kwa's favored pets and were kept on a planet composed of idyllic island paradises.

Forty million years after conquering the galaxy, the Qua went on to conquer other worlds, leaving behind a thousand planets and thousands of new people.[4]

War of the United Galaxies Many millions of years later, the descendants of humans—the Asteromorphs, Earthlings, new machines, and their subjects—formed a vast empire spanning the Milky Way, united with other galaxies, such as the Amphicephali, and finally avenged their ancestors by defeating the Kwa in a conflict of unfathomable proportions. The Kwa likely became extinct, enslaved, forced into slavery, or suffered some other fate.

The Qu The are an ancient, nomadic, highly advanced alien hive mind that divided humanity into numerous new species with varying levels of intelligence and physical abilities. They were the first intelligent alien race encountered by the Star People, and their use of genetic engineering disgusted them.
