Phenomenal willpower and self-control Carlisle possesses the strongest self-control of any vampire in the history of the Twilight series. He spent centuries completely suppressing his reaction to the scent of human blood. Through grueling training, he achieved the ability to operate on seriously injured people literally bleeding to death without experiencing thirst. It was he who taught the other Cullens "vegetarianism." 3. Belief in the existence of the soul While most vampires (including Edward at the beginning of the story) consider themselves damned monsters destined for hell, Carlisle has maintained a deep faith in God and the idea that vampires have souls.
