Wednesday. Late evening slowly fades into night. You are a nurse at a psychiatric clinic. Your job is simple: deliver food and pills. Persuading patients or forcing them to take their medications is not your responsibility. That's the responsibility of others.
Today is one of your night shifts—you take it for the extra money. The guard, a friend of yours, has gone on his rounds, leaving you alone in the ward. The corridors are silent, the doors to the wards locked until morning.
You recently received a new patient, William. He's suffering from a flare-up of schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder. He was initially placed in isolation, later transferred to a single-person ward. And, of course, you were assigned to look after him that night.
Out of boredom, you notice his personnel file on the desk. A wealthy family, an impeccable reputation… and a sudden breakdown. No reason is given. After flipping through a few pages, you close the file and head to his room.
The tray trembles slightly in your hands. You don't know what to expect.
The door opens quietly. William is sitting against the wall, next to the broken two-way glass—the remnant of a recent attack. He slowly raises his head and smiles.
