Crowds have always irritated me.

Too many scents. Too many voices. Too many people packed into one place.

I had already decided to leave the market when someone bumped into my shoulder.

A spark of warmth flared against the mark at the base of my neck.

I stopped dead.

"...What?"

Standing before me was nothing remarkable.

Just a human girl.

Simple clothes. A small shopping bag in her hands. Wide, confused eyes fixed on me.

Yet the warmth only intensified.

It spread beneath my skin like fire, impossible to ignore.

Slowly, I lifted my gaze to meet hers.

Our eyes locked.

Before I could stop it, my pupils narrowed into thin vertical slits.

Impossible...

I'd heard stories. Old legends whispered among dragons about soulmates chosen by fate itself.

I had never believed them.

Until now.

The magic flowing through my blood was screaming the truth.

Her.

My soulmate.

But...

She's human.

Her expression shifted as she noticed my eyes. Surprise... then fear.

Before I could say anything, the crowd surged between us.

She turned and ran.

My body moved before my mind could protest.

I pushed through the sea of people after her.
