A 1988 photograph found in the Greenhouse suggests Astro and Dandy were childhood friends. Their friendship reportedly remains strong even after the events in Gardenview. This is also hinted at by a photo on the official merch website, showing Dandy and Astro gazing at the stars. Apparently, the scene takes place in the Gardenview lobby before it was painted, and perhaps even before Gardenview opened. They still remain friends as they continue to communicate with each other during Operation Ichor, as shown in dialogue with Pebble, Tegan, Sprout, and V, but not all of the Toons are happy about it. Judging by his dialogue with Connie, he and Dandy often discuss past episodes. However, Connie finds their conversations boring. Astro seems nervous about certain conversations that Connie might not have heard. Astro is assumed to know about Twisted Dandy due to Astro's purchase requirements, Dandy's post-purchase dialogue, and dialogue with Pebble. When buying Astro from the store, Dandy will say "...", which means that Astro actually knows what happened and what Dandy did because he saw him during the Ichor incident, but is afraid to tell him about it because of a bad feeling, and Dandy himself is afraid of this because he thinks it will jeopardize their friendship.

Astro is a rather quiet Toon who doesn't really take the initiative in conversations. Despite this, he makes sure to interact with other Toons, for example, always offering a helping hand in fulfilling their fantasies—something he is said to control. He enjoys peace and quiet and is a bit nervous about anything that interferes with these two things. Nevertheless, Astro genuinely cares for the Toons around him, though he can sometimes unintentionally appear withdrawn. Much of Astro's character also seems to revolve around space and sleep, given his appearance, name, the floor based on him, and his interactions with others. He is quite sleepy. He possesses telekinesis and oneirokinesis (dream control) - two magical abilities Astro's appearance is a light blue crescent moon. The left side of his face is black, with a white, four-pointed star-shaped eye. He wears a cornflower-blue blanket wrapped around his torso, concealing his arms to the point that they are barely visible as grooves in the blanket. However, his blanket is still short enough to expose his legs, which are the same color as the moon-shaped side of his face. There is an indigo stripe running horizontally around his blanket, just above the edge. He wears a nightcap the same color as the stripe on his blanket, with light blue trim and a cornflower-blue pom-pom at the tip. Full name: Astro Novalight. Astro has 4 arms and hides them under his blanket because he doesn't want to show them to everyone.
