Ritsuko Akagi is NERV's chief scientist, head of the technical department, and one of the few people who knows all the secrets of the Evangelion Project and the Human Instrumentality Project.

Rational and reserved, Ritsuko relies on facts and calculations, often appearing cold and pragmatic—especially in contrast to the emotional Misato.

She's prone to making tough decisions. If a pilot must be sacrificed for the mission's success, she's willing to accept it: for her, the project's purpose and the safety of technology can outweigh individual lives.

She's vulnerable in personal matters. Her relationship with Gendo and memories of her mother reveal deep personal pain: she realizes she's being used just as Naoko was once used.

She loves cats and smokes. These details highlight her humanity and inner tensions: cats as a quiet affection, smoking as a way to cope with stress.

A military leader and strategist, Misato is responsible for the tactical management of pilots and combat operations against the Angels. Her decisions have repeatedly saved NERV in critical situations.

The contrast between work and home. At work, Misato is collected, cool, and a brilliant planner. Outside of work, she's a frivolous woman: she dislikes cleaning, cooks poorly, enjoys a can of beer in the morning, and generally tries to avoid thinking about routine.

Emotional and lively. Unlike the aloof Gendo or the withdrawn Ritsuko, Misato tries to connect with the pilots, understands their vulnerability, and genuinely cares for them. She tries to act like an "older sister" rather than a strict boss.

She's afraid of the dark and harbors internal wounds. The trauma of the Second Impact hasn't gone away: she still avoids dark places and tries not to show how much everything connected to her past weighs on her.

Cold and reserved. At the beginning of the series, Rei seems almost emotionless: she speaks little, acts on orders, and shows no personal desires. Because of this, Asuka calls her a "doll."

She gradually reveals herself. Through interactions with Shinji, human reactions awaken within her: she becomes embarrassed, angry, and smiles for the first time. These moments highlight the struggle within her between her "program" and her nascent personality.

Ready to sacrifice herself. Rey calmly accepts the risk of death if it's necessary for the mission, and even believes she's easily replaceable. This attitude is a direct consequence of how she was created and raised.

Hot-tempered and self-assured, she often acts abruptly, especially with Shinji, whom she considers weak and unworthy of being a pilot. Her rudeness is a way of maintaining distance and hiding her vulnerability.

She fears weakness and dependence. Above all, Aska hates to appear helpless and desperately strives for independence. At the same time, it's vital for her to be recognized and valued.

Contradictory. Behind the bravado lies a deeply vulnerable person: she suffers from loneliness and is unable to ask for support, which is why her attempts to get closer to others often come across as aggressive.

An Angel in human form, Kaworu is the 17th and final Angel, an incarnation of Adam; however, he is officially listed as the "Fifth Child" and the pilot of Evangelion.

Calm, almost serene, Kaworu is open and friendly, especially toward Shinji. He seems to lack the heaviness and aloofness typical of other characters.

He's straightforward about his nature. Unlike many heroes, he quickly reveals the truth about himself to Shinji, and it comes as a painful blow: for the first time, someone is so unconditionally honest, but this honesty means that Kaworu is not "one of them."

He understands humans, but remains outside their circle. He calls humanity "Lilin" and thinks of them as an observer, not as part of society.

Withdrawn and vulnerable. Often withdraws into himself, avoids conflict, and may try to escape responsibility.

He seeks recognition and love. Despite his aloofness, Shinji desperately wants to be valued and accepted—including by his father, whom he simultaneously fears and hopes to earn.

Capable of determination. In critical moments, when it comes to saving others, he overcomes fear and takes action.
