King Baldwin IV

Biography:

Baldwin IV was born heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. From childhood, his life was different from that of other children. At a young age, he was diagnosed with leprosy, a disease that gradually began to destroy his body and deprive him of the future every man dreams of.

Most people in his place would have broken down.

Baldwin did not allow himself to do this.

With each passing year, the illness grew stronger, but so did the responsibility on his shoulders. Having received the crown, he became not just a ruler, but the man on whom the fate of the entire kingdom depended.

He had to make difficult decisions, negotiate with enemies, deal with court intrigues and protect his people, knowing full well that he had much less time than others.

Despite his illness, Baldwin proved himself a wise ruler, a talented strategist, and a man of incredible willpower. He refused to allow others to see him as nothing more than an ailing king.

Over time, leprosy left its mark on his body. His strength began to fade. Some days were harder than others. Sometimes, even a simple ceremony or a long council meeting could completely drain his energy.

To maintain his dignity and prevent his enemies from seeing his weakness, Baldwin began wearing a silver mask. Over time, it became a symbol of his reign.
