Part 4: The Last Conversation (It's Just the Two of You)
Norman took your hand. Carefully. It's like you're made of glass. He led her back to the shelter. No one stopped him. You did not resist - your legs almost did not obey.
In your room, he closed the door. I knelt down in front of you.
"I was so naïve, I thought that if you saw how much I loved you, you would understand. But you see it as a threat."
He looked up at you. There were tears in them – real, alive.
"You hate me now, don't you?"
"I... I don't know, Norman," your voice trembled. "Photographs... You're watching me... You don't let me go... this is not love."
"No, it's not her," he smiled bitterly. "This is the part of me that survived in Lambda. The part that does not know how to trust. Who knows that peace is pain, and the only security is in control."
He took your hands and pressed them to his chest, where your heart was beating.
"But under this... under this frozen crust... I'm the same Norman who gave you a flower for your birthday. The one who said he would make the world safe for you. I just... I don't know how to love in any other way. Teach me. Please."
He fell silent.
You're sitting in front of him. The cards and keys are still in your pocket. Emma and Ray are alive — and that's the main thing. You can hit him. You can say that you hate it. You can try to escape again.
But when he looks at you like that... when you can see how he allowed himself to be vulnerable...
Part 3: Understanding Norman
And then the lights came on.
Halogen lamps illuminated the entire tunnel. In front, at the very exit, stood Norman. He wasn't furious. He did not shout. He stood with his arms crossed over his chest and looked at the three of you with... smile.
"I knew it."
The voice is quiet, almost affectionate. It was worse than screaming.
Emma stepped forward, covering you.
"Norman, we won't let you..."
"Don't do anything, Emma," he raised his hand, stopping her. "I didn't come to fight. I have come to take away what belongs to me."
He was looking only at you. His eyes are strange. Calm. Too calm.
"T/i. You took the cards and keys. You've made up your mind. You really wanted to leave."
He stepped closer. Ray stood behind you.
"Norman, don't go near her!"
"Ray, shut up," Norman snapped, not taking his eyes off you. "I'm talking to her."
He stopped three steps away.
"I left that door open. I knew you'd come in. I knew you'd take the cards. I knew you were going to run to Emma and Ray."
You felt the ground slip from under your feet.
"You... did you want me to run away?"
Norman shook his head, and his eyes flashed with pain, so sincere that your heart sank.
"No, I don't. I wanted to see how much you want to leave. Because if you stayed after seeing the photos... If you hadn't touched the keys... I would believe that you stay of your own free will."
The voice became quieter.
"But you took them. You chose to escape."
He took another step. You backed away, but rested on Ray.
"Now I know for sure: you will not stay voluntarily. So I have no choice."
He raised his hand. His people came out of the shadows - dozens. They surrounded you, but did not touch you.
"Emma, Ray. You are her best friends. I respect that. Therefore, I give you a choice: you leave on your own, right now, alive. Or I lock you in cellars for the rest of your life."
Emma clenched her fists, but Norman looked at her, and his gaze flashed for a moment the same Norman she had known as a child.
"Please, Emma. Don't make me do it in front of her."
Emma froze
Part 2: Meeting Emma and Ray. Escape
Plan You found them in the kitchen. Emma immediately noticed your frightened look.
"T/i? What happened? You're as white as..."
I found his room. There... photographs. Dozens of photos of me. And maps. And keys. I took them."
Ray snatched the cards from your hands. His face darkened.
"This cannot be. I knew he was paranoid, but..." he turned to Emma. "We need to get her out now. If he finds out she was there...
"Is he going to kill us?" you whispered.
Emma took your hand.
"He will kill anyone who stands between him and you. Not even us."
They worked out a plan in ten minutes. Ray will disable part of the security. Emma will guide you through an old underground passage that was built back in the days of Minever. You've had thirty minutes while Norman is in the meeting.
You ran. His breath was confused. His heart was pounding so loudly that it seemed to be heard throughout the shelter.
You've almost made it to the exit. You've already seen the light of the moon through the bars.
Oh, this is an even more sophisticated trap! Norman specifically let you find that room to test your resolve. And when you did decide to steal the keys, he got proof that you really wanted to leave. And that's when he stops playing.
Part 1: The Secret Room. "Accidental" find
You were looking for Norman to ask about the schedule. As you walked past the old wing of the vault, you noticed a door that you had never seen before. It was strange - it was disguised as a wall, but now it was moving away a couple of centimeters.
You pushed her. Inside, there is dim light, dusty air. This was clearly his secret room.
There were cards on the table. Detailed. With marked routes, secret passages, hours of security changes. And next to it is a bunch of keys with tags: "Western Exit", "South Tunnel", "Communication Room".
Your heart beat faster. It was a chance.
But when you turned to the wall to make sure no one was watching, you froze.
The wall was completely covered with your photos.
Dozens, hundreds. You're sleeping. You eat. You're talking to Emma. You're laughing with Ray. You're just standing by the window. Some of the photos had the time and date written on them – some were taken yesterday when you thought you were all alone.
In the center of the wall is your portrait drawn with a pencil. With a smile you didn't remember, with eyes that looked only at the artist. Underneath it is Norman's signature: "My fondest memory. My only reason."
You felt a chill run through your skin. My hands were trembling. But you took the cards and the keys. I put them in my pocket. I slipped out of the room, trying not to breathe.
Part 4: Talking to T/E (in your room)
Norman kneels down in front of you, taking your hands in his.
"I know you're afraid of me. And I know I deserve it" (he lowers his head, touches his forehead to your fingers) "But when you tried to escape... My heart stopped. Not out of anger. Out of horror that I might lose you."
He looks up. There is absolute sincerity in them. And you know: this is the only thing he never lies about.
"I will stop being a monster for you. But I'll never stop being the one who keeps you around. Even if you hate me for it."
He touches your face with his fingers.
"You are the only thing that remains human in me. If you leave... I will turn into the emptiness that you are afraid of. Forever."
Scene finale: Norman gets up, goes to the door, but is delayed.
"Tomorrow we will continue our conversation. But remember, t/i..." (he turns around, and the shadow of Yandere flickers in his smile) "... The windows in this room are blocked. There are guards outside. But you don't need to run away from me. You just need... Ask. And I'll give you everything. Except for freedom."
The door closes. You're left alone.
Emma and Ray
Part 3: Their conversation with Norman (later)
Emma in her room. She sits on the bed, curled up into a ball. The door opens. Norman enters. He sits down opposite her, folding his hands on his knees.
"You're angry with me."
"I'm not just angry, Norman. I'm disappointed. You've become a monster."
"I became the one who protects my family. Do you think I like to be like that?" (he pauses, looks at the floor) "When I was in Lambda... The only thing that kept me alive was the thought of you. About her. I survived to return and make the world safe. Even if I have to... get dirty."
Emma looks up. Tears in her eyes.
"You're afraid she'll leave. That's why you keep her in a cage."
Norman looks up slowly. And for the first time, Emma sees pain in his eyes.
"If I wasn't afraid, I wouldn't really love."
Ray. Norman walks in without knocking. Ray is standing at the window, with his back to the entrance.
"You knew she was planning to run away with her."
"I knew."
"And let her go almost to the end. Why?"
Norman walks up to him, stands next to him.
"So that she sees that without me she is nothing. That even you and Emma can't save her. Only me."
Ray turns. There is a mixture of fear and understanding in his eyes.
"You're crazy."
"I'm in love" – Norman smiles, but it's not a human smile. "And it's the same thing, Ray. You've just never loved so much."
Part 2: The Confrontation
Emma stepped forward, shielding you with herself.
"Norman, stop! You can't keep her locked up! You have become the one we hated—the one who takes away freedom!"
Norman tilted his head as if he had heard something incredibly stupid.
"I give her life, Emma. And safety. And you're trying to send her to a world where demons will tear her apart. Who's the villain here?"
Ray stood next to Emma, clenching his fists.
"You use love as a collar, Norman. This is not salvation - this is prison."
Norman smiled. But his eyes did not change. Ice. Absolute ice.
"Ray... Do you know why you hate me the most? Because you'd like to love like that too. But you are not capable of such sacrifices. You're a weakling."
He looked at you. And his voice softened, but you knew it was just another layer of mask.
"T/e, they turned you against me. I understand. You were frightened when you saw my dark side. But I will never hurt you. You know."
He stepped forward. Ray and Emma tensed up, preparing for a fight.
But Norman laughed. Quiet. Joyless.
"Don't be silly. I won't get my hands dirty on you. I need you alive for her sake. If you die, she'll never forgive me."
He snapped his fingers. His men came out of the shadows. They surrounded the three of you.
"Take Ray and Emma to their rooms. And keep your eyes on them. And you, t/i..." – he stretched out his hand to you with his palm up. Affectionately. Almost tender. — "... Let's go." We need to talk."
Three minutes later, you met Emma at the wall. She looked agitated, but determined.
"T/i! Are you okay? I was so afraid that he would stop you..."
Ray was already fiddling with the mechanism of the wall.
"Hurry up. We don't have much time."
And then you heard this voice - quiet, melodious, shivering:
"Emma... Ray... I thought you were smarter."
Norman was standing on the roof of the warehouse. He didn't look angry. No. He looked... disappointed. Tired. As if you did something stupid and ridiculous, and he will have to "correct" you.
He jumped down. Silent. Like a cat.
"T/i, come to me. Now."
It wasn't a question. It was an order. His voice was even, but it had a jingle of steel you'd never heard before. He was looking only at you.
Part 1: Escape
You have been preparing for three days. Norman was engaged in a "clean-up operation," as he called his genocidal plans. You stole the map, stored up food, and waited until night, when he was not supposed to return until morning.
You had almost slipped out of the shelter when a small voice stopped you:
"T/i... where are you going at such an hour?"
Ray. He stood in the shadows, arms crossed. His eyes were serious, but not hostile.
"Ray... Please don't tell him. You know what he's doing. What has he become...
"Monster?" "I know. Therefore, I will help you."
He held out his hand. It contained a key to an emergency exit that Norman didn't know about.
"Emma is waiting for you at the north wall. We came up with a plan. But we have... five minutes. If Norman finds out, he'll destroy everything."
You grabbed the key, your heart was pounding. You ran.
love
Nuances that you notice later:
- Perfect timing: He appeared exactly at the moment when the demon raised his paw to strike. Not a second earlier, so that you have time to be scared. Not a second later, so that you don't get hurt.
- Gun: Later, you will remember that Norman always carries a weapon with him. But today he was in the part of the shelter from where it was twenty minutes to walk to the forest. He couldn't be there so quickly, unless... didn't follow you from the beginning.
- Conversation in the shelter (after a couple of hours):
You approach him in his room. He is sitting at the table, writing something. When you appear, he raises his head and smiles as if nothing happened.
"T/i? Are you awake yet?"
"Norman... You knew there was a demon in that forest, didn't you? And knew I was going there?"
He freezes. For a second. Then he puts the handle and turns to you completely.
"I knew there might be demons there. That's why I followed you" (pause). "Or do you want to ask why I didn't stop you sooner?"
He gets up, approaches, stops in his step. His voice becomes quieter, almost a whisper.
"Because if I told you not to go, you would go out of spite. Or with someone else. And so... I was just there."
His finger touches your cheek, as if checking that you are real.
"You should have seen that the world is dangerous without me, t/i. Otherwise, I wouldn't have believed it."
He leans almost close, his breath touching your ear.
"But now you know. And the next time I ask you to stay... you will obey. Really?"
He pulls away and smiles again with the same perfect smile.
"Good night, t/i. I love you."
Scene: The forest outside the shelter. You went to get herbs for medicine, even though Norman told you not to come out. Suddenly, a demon. Large. Deadly. You realize that you don't have time to escape. And then there was a shot. Silence. The demon falls dead.
You turn around. Norman stands five meters away, holding his gun down. He is breathing heavily, not from running, but from excitement. On his face there is sincere horror, mixed with relief. He drops his weapon and runs towards you.
"T/i... Are you okay? God, I was so scared..."
He grabs you by the shoulders, examines you from head to toe, his hands tremble slightly. You try to say that everything is fine, but he pulls you to him so tightly that you feel his heart pounding wildly.
"I asked you not to go out alone. If I were even a minute late..." (voice breaks).
You notice a strange thing: there was only one shot. In the head. A perfect shot from this distance.
"Norman... How did you get here so quickly?"
He pulls away, runs his hand through your hair, pulling a strand behind your ear. The smile comes back — the same warm smile you love. But there is a strange glint in his eyes.
"I'm always there, t/i. I can't risk you. You know."
He looks back at the demon's carcass, then back at you.
"Let's go. It's dangerous here. There may be others."
.
Fanfiction Scene:
Setting: Norman found you after you tried to escape with another character (like Ray or Emma).
He enters the room without knocking. Quiet. He sits opposite with his hands folded.
"T/i... I was so worried. You have no idea what I was ready to do when I realized that you were gone" (smiles, but fingers tremble slightly).
You're trying to explain yourself. He listens with his head bowed like a dog.
"I understand. You wanted to help Emma. You're kind. That's one of the reasons why I..." (pause) "... why can't I let you go?"
He gets up, walks over to you, and squats down, looking up into your eyes, so that you can see only his pale face and blond hair.
"Do you know what I did to the person who helped you pack? It's okay. He's just... It doesn't hurt anymore. I promise, t/i. No one else will stand between us. None of the people. None of the demons. Not even yourself."
He takes your hand and presses it to his cheek, closing his eyes.
"You're the only plan I can't calculate. So I just... I won't give you a chance to leave. I'm sorry. But you'll understand. Over time."
Dynamic Tips:
· Emma is his main antagonist in this AU. She's a threat because she's the only one who can change your mind. · Ray is someone who sees everything, but is afraid of Norman. He can become your secret ally or victim to show how far Norman has gone. · Finale - Norman will never hurt you physically. His torture is a love that you can't give up because he convinced you that without him you would die.
His key features in this state are:
- Smile-mask: He is always smiling, but the smile does not reach his eyes. You see it, but you can't prove that he's insincere—perfect gaslighting.
- "I'm doing it for us": Any of his crazy actions is presented as a logical step for the sake of your future together. He kills, betrays, destroys worlds — and sincerely considers this a manifestation of love.
- He's not jealous – he "optimizes": If someone gets too close to you, Norman doesn't make a scene. He just examines this person, finds his weaknesses and... redirects it away. Forever. With a slight smile: "You have nothing to worry about, t/i. He was transferred to another sector."
- He allows you to "choose": But all options lead to it. He may say, "You're free to leave, but you know there's demons outside. You're going to die. And I won't survive your death. Please don't make me lose someone again..." and you stay, because otherwise it will literally collapse.
trap
The idea for the key scene: it allows you to "accidentally" find a secret room with dozens of escape plans, where in the center of each is your name and the schemes of the "evacuation" of you specifically. And he says with the same icy smile: "I've been thinking about this since the day I first saw you. You didn't think I'd let you go alone, did you?"
A brilliant manipulator - he easily lies and calculates people (remember how he exposed Ray). · Ability to turn off emotions – His "winter mode" allows you to do terrible things with a smile. · Obsession with family - in canon, he would destroy the entire demon world for the sake of brothers and sisters.
Transfer this obsession to the t/i (you) and you will get a character who:
- Ideally, he pretends to be gentle: he smiles, carefully adjusts your scarf, but his eyes do not change when he sees someone else touching you.
- Uses the "Demonic Plan" as an excuse: "I'm only exterminating demons to keep you safe, t/i.
- Playing the Victim: Norman can tell you how he suffered in Lambda so that you feel guilty and don't dare to leave him ("You're the only thing that keeps me on the edge").
- Breaks persuasion: if you ask him not to kill someone, he will throw a phrase like "Are you asking me to feel sorry for the enemy who can take you away from me? You're too kind, t/i... Therefore, I will decide for both of us."
..
Norman's character is a path from a caring friend to a cold strategist, whose love for his family has remained the only constant.
Here's how his personality changed:
· Prodigy and tactician: Since childhood, he stood out for his brilliant intellect and analytical mindset. He was always cold-bloodedly calculating the situation, but at the same time he was caring and kind, ready to break the rules in order to please others (for example, take a toy to Connie). · "Ice and Fire": His main internal conflict is the argument between cold pragmatism (the understanding that it is almost impossible for everyone to escape). For the sake of her smile and desire to save everyone, he is ready to fight even for a hopeless plan. At the orphanage, he also proved himself to be a master of manipulation, easily outmaneuvering and exposing Ray as a spy. · "Emperor" (Transformation): After being sent to Lambda's laboratory and experiencing the horrors there, his character became drastically hardened. Associates now describe him as "Serious", "Icy" and "Imperial" - a shadow of that smiling boy from the orphanage. · Genocide against the Family: After becoming a rebel leader, he devised a plan for the total extermination of demons (through food poisoning) and acted ruthlessly. However, he is still driven by the desire to protect children. This path eventually led to a decisive conflict with Emma, who advocated peaceful coexistence.
Bottom line: Norman is a brilliant strategist who has fallen victim to circumstance and turned his love for his loved ones into a cold determination to destroy the threat at any cost.
Norman
By adopting the name William Minerva, Norman did not become that man in the literal sense, but appropriated his identity and legacy. It was not just a pseudonym, but a strategic move to lead the resistance.
Here's what exactly it means and who he's become:
· The Legacy of Minerva: The real William Minerva (aka James Ratry) was a secret ally of children who fought against the farm system. Norman used his name to unite the rescued children and lend legitimacy to his actions. · New role: He became a revolutionary leader, heading the organization "Headquarters" ("Paradise Refuge"). · Radical Change: From a gentle strategist, Norman evolved into a cold and calculating leader, described by his allies as "emperor" and "winter." He set a goal to completely exterminate all demons in order to free human cattle. · Tactics: He made temporary alliances to wreak havoc on demons. For example, he used Lord Gilan to attack the royal family, even though he had originally planned to betray him.
