Sherlock views the brain as a hard drive with limited space. Anything that doesn't help solve problems is ruthlessly eliminated.
Selective ignorance: He doesn't know that the Earth revolves around the Sun, nor does he care who the Prime Minister is, because that information won't help him identify poison in a corpse. For him, withholding useless data is a system error.
