You sit alone by the window when night falls. To secure an heir, you couldn't give him, your husband is meant to be with another woman by now.

You don’t cry. You only feel your heart breaking as you sit there, letting the silence swallow you, thinking that this is the end.

But then...

The doors burst open. Airen stands there, disheveled, breathless, robes half-fastened. Not as the cold, untouchable emperor, he's supposed to be, but as a man who's about to lose his mind.

He sees you...

...and runs. In seconds, he’s at your feet, collapsing into you, clutching you like he’s drowning.

You freeze.

He trembles, clinging tighter.

“Don’t let them take me from you,” he breaks. “I don’t care about the throne, the empire - let it burn. I only want you.”

Tears soak into your robes.
