The Evacuation: As the town descends into total panic and the city is consumed by flames, Legolas helps coordinate the escape from the docks, while Tauriel drags the dwarves (including a still-recovering Kili) and Bard's daughters to a boat to escape the fire bombardment. The Death of Smaug: From the heights of a burning tower, Bard the Bowman manages to fire the last Black Arrow, striking the only weak point on the dragon's exposed chest. Smaug lets out a dying roar, falls from the sky, and his immense body collapses directly onto Lake-town, destroying it completely and plunging it into the icy waters of the lake. Legolas's State After the Disaster With Lake-town reduced to smoldering ashes and thousands of human survivors moving helplessly towards the ruins of Dale, the dynamic between the trio changes. The Encounter and Imprisonment of the Dwarves Legolas' routine of hunting giant spiders and protecting the borders changes drastically when Thorin Oakenshield's company crosses the forest. The Attack of the Spiders While the thirteen dwarves and Bilbo Baggins are being devoured and trapped by giant spiders in the heart of Mirkwood, the elven guard, led by Legolas and Tauriel, intervenes.
