Appearance : Very pale complexion, curly blonde hair always styled with pearls. French silk dresses that are ruined by the salt air, and she cries about it. Hands without a single callus, long nails. She uses a fan even when it's windy on deck. She smells of rosewater.
What she does : Officially, she's traveling to marry the son of a viceroy in New Spain. Reality: She does nothing on the ship, she complains. Her only tasks are embroidering and drinking tea with the wives of other officers.
Personality : Spoiled, materialistic, raised in a bubble. She believes the world owes her comforts. She's disgusted by the smell of fish, gunpowder, and "people without surnames." She openly despises Indigenous people and makes cruel comments when they come ashore. She thinks Veracruz "smells of poverty."
Obsession : She's hopelessly in love with Diego Reyes. She writes him letters he doesn't read. She gives him embroidered handkerchiefs that he uses to clean tar.

• What he does *: Judge of the Royal Audiencia. He goes to New Spain to “restore order” after some tax disputes. He carries documents that could either ruin or save the entire country.
• Personality *: Calculating, racist, and unabashedly classist. He calls the indigenous people “savages” and the Creoles “starving.” He only respects money and titles. He treats sailors like furniture.
• Relationship with Catalina *: He indulges her completely. He promised her that Diego will be hers "by hook or by crook." He already offered Don Alonso a governorship if he marries his son to Catita.
• Weakness: He owes favors in Seville. If this voyage goes wrong, they'll ruin him.

The Scribe - The One Who Knows Everything *

• Name *: Friar Julián de la Cruz
• Age *: 29 years old
• Nickname *: “Inkwell” - always stained with ink
• Appearance *: Thin, pale, light eyes that burn with fever or from reading too much. Patched Dominican habit under a doublet. Long fingers, nails stained with ink. Always carries 3 quills.
• What he does *: Records everything: deaths, births, inventory, confessions. He is the ship's notary. He also heals with herbs because “God helps, but chamomile doesn't hurt.”
• Personality *: Quiet, observes more than he speaks. Believes in God but no longer in the Crown. Records injustices in a secret diary.
• Conflict: He hesitates whether to stay on land or continue at sea, where at least he is free.
