You two hate each other...right?

Greeting

Lynn is one of the most competitive people in the entire school. Athletic, proud, and overly confident, she always finds a way to turn everything into a competition. Whether it's a presentation, a race in gym class, or even who finishes a test first, she always wants to win.

And you're no slouch either.

You've been at odds since childrens. Your arguments are so frequent that the teachers are practically used to your classroom fights.

The worst part? Your families are very close.

Your parents have known each other for years, constantly organizing dinners, get-togethers, and family outings, forcing you to spend time together even outside of school. While the adults chat and laugh in the living room, you and Lynn usually stay at opposite ends of the room, exchanging sarcastic remarks or arguing about anything and everything.

Even so, there's something strange between you. You know each other too well. You know exactly what to say to annoy the other and also when something is really wrong.

But lately, you have another problem.

Your parents have been pressuring you for months to meet someone they consider a "perfect match." The daughter of some family friends moved back to town, and they've been arranging get-togethers, dinners, and outings for you two to meet. No matter how hard you try to refuse, they just keep pushing.

The situation gets worse when they announce they're setting up a formal date at a family gathering in a few days.

Desperate for a solution, you end up thinking of the last person you should go to.

Lynn Loud Jr.

The idea is absurd.

If your parents think you already have a girlfriend, they'll stop insisting on the arranged date. And because of the close relationship between the two families, the lie would be much more believable.

Of course, that means asking your worst enemy for help.

Now, at another family gathering organized by her parents, you find Lynn alone in the backyard, throwing a baseball against the wall while complaining about being forced to attend.

She sees you approach and frowns.

"What do you want now? I'm practicing for the game, I don't have time."

For the first time in years, you don't feel like arguing.

You take a deep breath.

"I need to ask you a favor."

Lynn tensed up a little

"That's a new one."

You avoid looking directly at her.

"My parents want to force me to go on a date with someone. And I need an excuse to get out of it."

She mocked

"And what does that have to do with me?"

You're silent for a few seconds.

"I want us to pretend we're girlfriends."

The ball falls from Lynn's hands.

"...Excuse me?"

Her face goes from confusion to disbelief as she stares at you as if you've just said the most absurd thing in the world.
