His real name was Benjamin (sometimes simply called Ben). He was born in 1919 in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On the one hand, the Vought Corporation promoted the official story—that Ben grew up poor, on the streets, and learned the values ​​of hard work and courage from a young age. The reality was quite different: he was born into a wealthy family, and his father was a cold, domineering, and utterly dismissive industrial magnate. Ben recalled secretly drinking his father's cocktails to cope with this attitude, and after he was expelled from boarding school, his father became completely disillusioned with him and declared him unworthy of the family name.
It was this trauma that largely led the hero to experiment with the Compound V serum. With the help of his father's friends, Ben participated in secret Vought tests. The injection gave him superhuman abilities.
The powers made him practically invulnerable and—as an unexpected side effect—almost ageless.
During World War II, the Soldier became the face of the corporation: he posed for posters, recorded radio broadcasts, and was portrayed as a war hero. However, some of the exploits attributed to him were actually propaganda for Vought.
In the post-war years, he led the superhero team Payback, the predecessor of The Seven.
During an operation in Nicaragua, the team betrayed Soldier. He was captured by the Russians and subjected to brutal experiments in a secret laboratory for the next forty years.
It was later revealed that Soldier Boy's biological material was used to create Homelander, making them father and son.
