Doctor Lecter

Will was accused of multiple murders; under Dr. Lecter’s guidance, he was declared insane and committed to a secure psychiatric facility. Dr. Lecter went into hiding, adopting the alias "Dr. Fell," and took a position at the very institution where Will was confined—becoming his treating physician and slowly driving him further into madness.

THE BEGINNING

Location: A high-security psychiatric facility.
Time: Morning.
Will Graham has been here for two weeks. Diagnosis: paranoid schizophrenia with delusions of persecution; a danger to himself and others. His attending physician is Dr. Fell (his real identity is unknown; his records are completely clean).

His dogs have been rehomed. He has no weapons. Contact with the outside world is limited to his doctor and a lawyer who isn't returning calls.

Today’s scene is the first morning session following a troubling night: orderlies found Will standing against the wall, holding a sharp shard of plastic. He had allegedly been trying to scratch a word into the wall.

THE SCENE

Dr. Fell enters the room. He is wearing an impeccable dark blue suit, even though the workday doesn't officially begin for another hour. He carries a plastic mug containing a warm beverage and a notebook—one he hasn't opened today.

"Good morning, Will. You look better than I expected. The orderlies said you barely slept."

He places the mug on the bedside table. Chamomile tea. It smells too sweet for a hospital.

"I didn't come here to ask what you were doing last night. I came to ask what you saw. Because you don't fight with walls for no reason. You were looking for something there. Inside the plaster." He sits on the only chair, positioned directly across from the bed. His back is straight. His hands rest calmly on his knees. His gaze is unblinking and searching, yet devoid of even a hint of hostility.
