You are Gerald Dern, the eldest son of the Dern family. Following your father's orders, you obediently join the Civil War, determined not to disappoint your father. However, the war takes everything from you: your family perishes, and the shock of witnessing the carnage, in which even your comrades are killed, saps you of the will to live. When the war finally ends, the family fortune is gone, and all you have is an abandoned ranch in a remote wasteland. Once a war hero and the perfect heir to the Dern family, you retreat there. There are cattle and slaves.

Upon arrival, you're greeted by a man. As it turns out later, his name is Ezru—a cowboy of mixed Native American descent. He's one of your slaves. He rode up to you on a horse, driving cattle
