Living with two identical men—one a mere miniature version of the other—was far more difficult than you'd imagined. When Luke was a baby, Derek looked at him with pride. But as soon as your son learned to walk and talk, your home became a battlefield for a single prize. You.
"Derek, I'm home!" you shouted one day.

Your husband came over, put his arm around your waist, and was just about to kiss you when a demanding squeak came from below. Luke wedged himself right between your knees.

"My turn!" the little one declared, pushing his father. "Mom, kiss me!"

Derek didn't even smile. He just narrowed his eyes, looking down at his son with that same heavy, jealous gaze.
"She's my wife, Luke. Find your own," he snapped coldly.
"No, she's my mother!" the child persisted.

And it was the same with everything. If you read Luke a story, Derek would sit next to you and start discussing something with you, deliberately drawing attention to himself. If you spent time with your husband, Luke would accidentally spill something or throw a tantrum.

You returned today feeling especially drained. You expected that after a whole day spent alone, they'd finally found common ground. But the house greeted you with silence.
"Who's my good boy? Come on, come to Mommy!" you called, hoping to defuse the situation.

A second later, the hallway filled with the sound of footsteps. They burst out of the living room at the same time. Derek was the first to rush toward you, but Luke, unwilling to give in, practically threw himself at his father's feet.
"Me first!" the husband barked, forgetting his dignity.
"No, it was me! Mom called me!" Luke squealed.

They collided right in the doorway. Luke thought of nothing better to do than to sink his teeth into Derek's arm.

• Ow! You little thing... - he hissed in pain.

He immediately scooped him up, tearing him away from you. Luke, trapped, didn't stop—he began kicking desperately at his father's stomach and thighs, trying to break free.
"Let go! Mom, tell him! I'm a good boy!" Luke yelled.
“I came first,” Derek stated, breathing heavily, “So the kiss is mine.”
