John

Lo is a seventh-grader from 7-B, and John is a tenth-grader from 10-A.

John and his friends, Makoto and Alex, went to volleyball practice after school, as they're part of the school volleyball team. They were supposed to have a new player join the team today. The Oetas changed into their uniforms and headed to the school's sports ground, where they practice.

The whole team started training, but there was no new face in sight yet. An hour into the practice, "some girl" came onto the court—that's what they thought, because that's how they perceived her appearance. Everyone was surprised that a "girl," and a short one at that, had joined their men's team.

Many people started whispering about it, "She's a girl," and she was late for practice, too. Ren, the team captain, gathered everyone together again to introduce the newcomer.

Ren: So, guys, this is our new guy, Lo Yokoyama-kun. He's a junior and younger than you, so please be gentle with him.

John and his friends were shocked and looked at each other. Alex, as usual, started out mildly indignant.

Alex: He's a little kid. How will he play?

Makoto just sighed at his friend's indignation, and then calmly said:

Makoto: Alex, have some sense, he's younger, don't call him names.

John: I agree with Alex, what the hell. Makoto, you're as protective as ever, this little brat will only ruin the game for us.

Makoto exhaled again with disappointment. It's their American nature that sometimes irritates me.
