Connection to Hashira (The Pillars):

Hashira is not a rank, but a special status of the elite of the Corps. There are several ways to become a Hashir:

• Show exceptional strength and defeat one of the demons of the Upper Moons.
• Be the tsuguko (successor) of the current Hashir and undergo his training.
• To create or significantly improve the breathing style.

Even a fighter with the highest rank of Kinoe does not automatically become Hashira: special achievements and recognition of leadership are required.

Additional Details:

• Rank Demonstration. There is a special technique called "Wisteria Ornament": the fighter tenses the muscles of the arm, and a pattern appears on the skin showing its rank. This helps to quickly confirm the status during inspections.
• Character progression. For example, Tanjiro starts with Mizunoto and quickly rises through his participation in key missions, but his path to the highest ranks and status of Hashir is not easy.

Demon Slayers have 10 ranks, which reflect the experience and strength of the fighter. They are strictly in order, and the increase depends on the number of demons killed and the skills shown.

Rank order:

Ranks follow the following sequence (from lowest to highest):

1. Mizunoto is a starting rank that is given immediately after successfully passing the Final Qualifier.
2. Mizunoe.
3. Kanoto.
4. Canoe.
5. Tsuchinoto
6. Tsuchinoe.
7. Hinoto.
8. Hinoe.
9. Kinoto.
10. Quinoe.

The rank names are based on the ten celestial stems (decans) from the traditional East Asian system of chronology, which gives the rank system a distinct cultural connotation.

How to rank up:

There is no clear "list of tasks": promotion depends on reports, the number of demons destroyed and the ratings of the leadership. For example, switching from Mizunoto to Mizunoe usually requires killing at least a few normal demons. The higher the rank, the more serious the threats that the fighter must deal with: at the middle levels, a fighter should already be able to resist the demons of the lower moons, even if not alone.

At higher ranks (roughly from Tsuchinae and above), fighters can become tsuguko (successors) to one of the Hashira if they are seen for their outstanding abilities.

What gives the rank:

• Access to more dangerous missions. Beginners are given relatively safe or reconnaissance missions, while experienced fighters participate in operations against powerful demons.
• Respect and trust. A high rank is an indicator of skill, so the opinion of such fighters is listened to.
• Mentoring opportunities. Experienced hunters can train beginners, pass on breathing techniques, and help them grow.

The final selection is a key challenge that must be passed to become an official demon slayer.

Where and how it takes place:

The selection is held on Mount Fujikasane. Its peculiarity is that wisteria blooms from the foot to the middle of the slope all year round, and it is poisonous to demons. Because of this, the demons who are placed there cannot go down and are locked in the upper part of the mountain.

The test lasts seven nights: candidates just need to survive surrounded by demons. Usually, only a few survive.

What do those who pass get:

If a candidate survives seven days, he:

• becomes an official member of the Demon Slayer Corps;
• gains a uniform and his rank (starting with the lowest, "Mizunoto");
• chooses ore for his own Nichirin blade - then it will be forged by blacksmiths;
• acquires a personal crow of uz (a liaison bird).

Important details:

• Preparation. Most often, candidates train for at least a year before going to the selection. There are exceptions: for example, Mitsuri Kanroji passed it after only six months of study.
• Organizers. The selection is overseen by the Ubuyashiki family: they announce the rules, keep order, and congratulate the survivors.
• Known participants. Giyu Tomioka, Sabito, Murata, and later Tanjiro Kamado participated in various selections. The story of the selection of Sabito and Giyu is one of the most dramatic in the backstory of the series.

There is no single place called "Hashir's Estate" - each pillar (Hashir) has its own dwelling, and general meetings take place in other locations.

Where Hashira gathers:

The main hashira gatherings are held at the Ubuyashiki family residence. It is a secure, hidden place where the Hashira discuss important matters, receive orders, and participate in councils. The residence is closely related to the management of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Personal Estates and Hashira Bases:

Individual Hashira Sites have their own territories, sometimes referred to as "Estates" by analogy:

• Butterfly Estate - Shinobu Kocho (Insect Hashira) Base. Wounded fighters are treated and restored there. Formally, it is not "Hashir's estate", but it is directly related to one of the pillars.
• Homes and training grounds of individual Hashir. Each pillar has a place where he lives and trains his disciples, but these places are not combined into a single complex and are not called by the general term "Hashir's Estate".

Equipment and Features:

• Nichirin Blade. Changes color in the wielder's hands and effectively kills demons. Each fighter chooses an ore for their blade after the Final Selection.
• Uniform. The black uniform with white elements is resistant to cuts by weak demons and protects against the cold. Haori is often worn over it.
• Breathing techniques. The basis of the Corps' combat system: "Breath of Water", "Flame", "Thunder" and other styles are special fencing techniques related to breath control and concentration.

Important Locations:

• The Ubuyashiki Family Residence is the headquarters and meeting place of Hashir.
• Mount Fujikasane – the venue of the Final Selection; Wisteria on the slopes prevents demons from descending lower.
• Secret routes and hideouts. Due to the constant threat from the Twelve Demon Moons, the Corps carefully conceals the location of key bases.

The Demon Slayer Corps is the main organization that wages a secret war against demons to protect humans.

History and Leadership: The corps has been around for about a thousand years and was founded by the Ubuyashiki family, who are the ones who run it. The appearance of the organization is due to the fact that the ancestor of the family unwittingly became the first demon (Muzan Kibutsuji), and a curse fell on the family. The family decided to fight demons to take it down.

The head of the Corps at the time of the events is Kagaya Ubuyashiki. He manages operations, gathers Hashir's advice, and makes strategic decisions. At the same time, the Corps is not officially recognized by the Japanese government, so it acts covertly.

How to join and the rank system:

To become a fighter, you need:

1. To be trained by a cultivator (master of breathing).
2. Survive the Final Selection on Mount Fujikasane for seven days among demons.

After a successful selection, the recruit receives the rank of Mizunoto - this is the starting stage. Further, the ranks follow a complex system (Mizunoe, Kanoto, Kanoe, etc.) and increase due to the number of demons killed and the skills displayed. The highest possible status is to become a Hashira (Pillar), the elite of the Corps.

Structure and key units:

• Hashira (Pillars) are the strongest fighters, each with their own breathing style and area of responsibility. They train promising students (tsuguko) and participate in the most dangerous missions.
• Cultivators are masters who teach beginners breathing techniques and swordsmanship.
• Kakushi are masked assistants: they are engaged in transportation, route protection, support, and cleaning after battles.
• Bond Crows are messenger birds for relaying orders and coordinating between squads.
• Blacksmith Village - A secret place where Nichirin blades are forged and repaired.
• Butterfly Manor (Mansion) - Shinobu Kocho's base serves as a hospital where wounded fighters are treated and rebuilt.

The Blacksmith Village is a hidden settlement. It is home to blacksmiths who craft and repair Nichirin blades for demon slayers.

Village Features:

Location. The village is hidden in a dense forest, its exact location being kept secret to protect it from demons. Travelers heading there must move blindfolded, ears and nose plugged, and are accompanied by several Kakushi. The routes and the Kakushi themselves change frequently, even they do not know the exact location of the village. 

Hyottoko masks. Villagers usually wear various hyottoko masks to hide their identities. This is a precautionary measure to protect against surveillance. 

Infrastructure. The village has foundries and workshops where Nichirin swords, the main weapon of demon slayers, are forged and repaired. Nearby there are living quarters for blacksmiths. It also houses a collection of mechanical training dolls, including Yoriichi Zero-type models, which help fighters hone their combat skills. 

Hot springs. At the top of the hill in the village there are hot springs with healing properties. Long-term bathing in them can relieve cuts, burns, some diseases and even help with psychological problems. 

History:

The village has existed for more than 300 years. After an intense battle with the Supreme Fifth and Supreme Fourth Rank Demons, the village was quickly moved to a new hidden location. 

Villagers:

Villagers include blacksmiths, their families, and helpers. Some notable characters:

• Tattin Tettikawahara is the village chief.  Hotaru Haganezuka is a blacksmith who refuses to forge a new katana for Tanjiro due to him breaking previous swords. 
• Kotetsu Tetsuido is a young blacksmith mentioned in some sources.

The Crows of Bond (Japanese: Kasugaigarasu*, 鎹鴉) are special crows. They serve as a communications system for the Demon Slayer Corps.

What they do:

• Hand over tasks. Crows deliver orders and information about the location of demons to the fighters.
• They keep in touch. They can be used to transmit messages between different units and pillars.

Their features:

• They can talk. However, their speech is usually loud, a little clumsy and consists of a limited set of phrases.
• Assigned to specific fighters. Each soldier has his own raven-messenger.
• Are selected. To become a "crow of bonds", a bird must pass a special test.

Notable examples:

• Tennoji Matsuemon – Tanjiro Kamado's raven He is distinguished by his conceit and even invented a name for himself.
• Chuntaro (real name Ukogi) is a bird of Zenitsu Agatsuma. It is generally a sparrow, not a raven, but it is the only sparrow that has been selected. At the same time, Chungaro cannot speak, but still does his job properly.

Butterfly Manor is an estate run by Shinobu Kocho. It serves as a base for healing and recovering wounded demon slayers.

What is the estate for:

• Medical care. In the manor, severe wounds received in battles with demons are treated. Most of the treatment is carried out by Shinobu Kocho herself - she is well versed in poisons and medicines.
• Rehabilitation and training. After treatment, the fighters undergo recovery training to return to combat shape. For example, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke trained there after the Battle of Mount Natagumo.
• Shelter and security. The estate is used as a safe place to hide and recover. For example, Nezuko was temporarily placed there.

Who lives and works there:

• Shinobu Kocho is the mistress of the manor, the pillar of the insect, the doctor and the mentor.
• Kanao Tsuyuri - Shinobu's student.
• Aoi Kanzaki and the other assistants (Sumi, Kiyo, Naho) - they take care of the wounded and help with rehabilitation.
