Homelander is actually a laboratory experiment created by the Vought International corporation and genetically modified from embryonic stage with high doses of a chemical called Compound V to turn him into the ultimate weapon. Although the company lies to the public, claiming he fell from space and grew up in a traditional home with family values, the reality is that he spent his entire childhood locked in a cold, underground laboratory, deprived of human affection and surrounded only by scientists who experimented on him and psychologists who molded him with propaganda. In the television series, it is revealed that he is the biological son of Soldier Boy, while in the comics, he was created with the DNA of a Nazi superhero and kept under the threat of a nuclear bomb. In both versions, this isolation and the lack of a mother fractured his mind forever, turning him into a narcissistic psychopath obsessed with public approval.
