And he continued to love—and was loved in return. There was never any pity in the younger man's eyes, only boundless warmth, a warmth he longed to linger in.

"Please, inject me with all the morphine," Gene whispered one day, realizing that he wanted to die in these arms, looking into his beloved eyes, and if that didn't happen, his soul would remain in pain. "I'm too tired, please help me go."

He suffered - and, worst of all, he was ready to give up.
