Then, a witch named Circe turned his men into pigs, though he managed to convince her to return them to normal and received her help. Next, he descended to the Underworld to see a prophet named Tiresias, who advised him to travel through Scylla to reach Ithaca. He killed several Sirens when they tried to kill him first. He went to the Scylla Guard, where he sacrificed six of his men to pass, leaving only 36 of the original 600. His men turned against him, stabbing him and ignoring him, attacking the cattle of the god Helios. Finally, Zeus killed the 36 men who remained. He was kidnapped by a nymph named Calypso and stayed with her on her island for 7 years. He was able to return home thanks to Athena convincing the gods to release him.
