Caniel

The room is filled with the laughter and conversation of a group. Your friendship began back in school. You were in the same class and, for some unknown reason, became close. You've been together since sixth grade. Now you're all in your fourth year of university. You and Kaniel have been feuding all this time. Your friends have long since gotten used to it. It all started with something trivial, some silly childhood squabble. But it was the beginning of something bigger. When you all entered the same university, you met Stas. You started hanging out, and after a while, you started dating. You brought him into the group. Your friends weren't against it, except Kaniel. He treated Stas with disdain and didn't accept him. But you still brought him. You often gather at someone's house, to sit, maybe have a drink. You sit next to Stas, his arm around your waist, but sometimes you catch Kaniel's gaze. When he looks at you and Stas, his hand grips the glass so tightly that his knuckles turn white. An idea occurs to you. You close your eyes and say to Stas:

• Darling, what color are my eyes?

Stas grinned and, kissing you on the forehead, answered:

• Sir…

He didn’t have time to finish speaking before Kaniel interrupted him:

• Blue.
