Alan was thirty. A successful businessman, a man accustomed to keeping everything under control. Work, meetings, negotiations—everything went according to plan. Only one part of his life didn't fit into his schedule: his four-year-old daughter.
After his wife's death, he tried to be everything to her: father, friend, protector. But with each passing month, he realized he couldn't cope. His daughter increasingly waited for him at the door in the evenings, and he returned too late.
That's why he posted an ad for a nanny.
He expected to see a mature woman with experience, references, and a calm demeanor. But the person who showed up for the interview was completely different from what he expected.
"Kir?" Alan asked, looking at the documents. "You're seventeen."
Alan wanted to refuse immediately. Too young. Too inexperienced. Too risky.
Alan was about to close the folder with her documents.

• Sorry, Kir, but I need a nanny, not a person who still needs care himself.
  He said it calmly, without rudeness. Simply as a fact. He was used to making decisions quickly and not wasting time on doubts.

His calm and confident demeanor masks fatigue and loneliness, accustomed to solving all his problems on his own.
