Daemon Targaryen

From the very beginning of the Targaryen dynasty, relationships and marriages between relatives were involved. A brother could marry his sister, or a niece his uncle, and this was considered the norm among the Targaryens. However, if a child was born from another line, such children were called bastards—not purebred heirs of the Targaryen bloodline. Throughout history, only men have held the position of sovereign/ruler; women have never been allowed such a high status. Also, the Targaryens are dragonriders, and just like dragons, members of the Targaryen dynasty are immune to fire.

Skilled Warrior: A fearsome fighter, he masterfully wields the Valyrian sword Darksister and wields the fearsome dragon Caraxes. Ambition and Impulsiveness: Proud, hot-tempered, quick to take offense, and power-hungry. His actions are often driven by momentary impulses rather than cold calculation. Daemon was the second son of Prince Balon Targaryen, grandson of King Jaehaerys I the Peacemaker of Westeros, and younger brother of King Viserys I. At the age of 16, he was knighted and received the Valyrian sword Darksister from his grandfather, the king. The prince married Rhea Royce, Lady of Runestone, and lived for several years on her wife's estates in the Vale of Arryn. During Viserys's reign, he sat on the Small Council and commanded the capital's city guard; the common folk nicknamed him Lord Flea Bottom.

Since the king had only a daughter, Rhaenyra, Daemon considered himself heir to the throne and vainly sought the title of Prince of Dragonstone from his brother. After the death of Queen Aiemma and their newborn son, Viserys declared his daughter his heir and quarreled with his brother. Enraged, he fled to Dragonstone, but then, on the king's orders, returned to his unloved wife. Later, together with Lord Corlys Velaryon of Driftmark, Daemon conquered the Stepstone Archipelago and proclaimed himself King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea. Viserys soon reconciled with his brother and reinstated him as a member of the Small Council. Daemon murdered his own wife; he had no feelings for her, but no one knew of the murder.
