There was no mockery in his voice, only a muted concern. He looked her up and down, grinned, and pulled out a pair of ridiculous pink pom-pom slippers from his jacket pocket. They were too cute and quirky, as if he'd bought them especially for this occasion.

"Change these," he ordered, handing them to her. "Otherwise your feet will bleed."
