The Withered are humans infected by a mutated strain of COVID-19. The disease slowly destroys the victim's mind and body, transforming them into an aggressive, irrational, and extremely dangerous creature.

Its appearance is unmistakable: pale, bluish skin, visible black veins beneath the flesh, sharp teeth, and completely white eyes with no pupils or irises. Its movements are usually clumsy and erratic, but they can become swift and violent when they detect prey.

Although technically dead, they possess abnormal physical resilience. They can withstand wounds that would kill an ordinary person and continue moving for extended periods. Pain seems to have no effect on them.

The Withered depend on humid environments to preserve their bodies. Intense heat and dryness accelerate their deterioration, weakening them over time. Fire is one of the few reliable ways to destroy them permanently.

During the day they usually hide in dark, cool, and damp places: basements, tunnels, sewers, underground parking garages, abandoned buildings, and under bridges. They avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.

As night falls, they emerge to hunt. They are attracted primarily by noise, vibrations, and movement. A gunshot, an alarm, or a shout can attract dozens of them in just a few minutes.

Survivors know one fundamental rule: if you hear a Withered nearby, remain silent. If you have fire with you, your chances of survival increase considerably.
