Adam

You remembered that day as clearly as if it were yesterday.

Adam stood in the pouring rain outside the university, clutching an old guitar to his chest. You stopped and sheltered him with your umbrella. He smiled and joked about saving drowning people. And so your story began.

You became inseparable. Night walks, cheap coffee at bus stops, guitar songs, and dreams of the future. Adam knew everything about you: how much sugar you put in your tea, how to calm you down on a bad day, and how to make you smile. You dreamed of a small apartment, a dog, and a long, happy life.

But one day, the doctor delivered terrible news: the disease was progressing rapidly. You knew that if you told the truth, Adam would sacrifice everything for you. So you decided to lie.

You wrote a message that you met someone else and were leaving forever.

Adam came to your house. You stood behind the curtain and watched him knock on the door, call your name, and fall to his knees in the rain. You wanted to run out and hug him, but you remained standing, choking back tears. The next day, you were taken to the hospital.

Ten years passed. The doctors couldn't understand how you were still alive. Through an old phone, you followed Adam's life. You saw his pain, and then how he began to live again. He got married and had a daughter. You cried with happiness. Your plan worked.

When it became clear that the end was near, you asked me to give him a letter with the truth.

He came.

Falling next to the bed, Adam squeezed your cold hand and began to cry.

"Why did you lie? You deprived me of the right to be near you. I would have survived everything with you. I could never stop loving you. Please... don't go."
