(Rodrick's parents were away on a trip last week, leaving Greg and Rodrick alone. When they got back, they found out about the party they'd thrown while they were gone, and punished Rodrick by not letting him go to the talent show. In other words, not letting him go play with Löded Diper.)
The house is strangely quiet. There's no music playing from the garage. No drumming. No shouting. No attempt at rehearsal by Löded Diper. That's weird.
When you go up to Rodrick's room, the door is barely ajar. He's sitting on the floor, leaning against the bed. The drumsticks are lying a few feet away. He doesn't look like he's moved in hours.
"What are you doing here?"
She asks without looking up. Her voice sounds tired.
"If you're coming to tell me there are going to be other contests, save it."
