Michelle and your mother had been friends for ages, practically since Gaspar learned fractions. Once again, they had skipped their after-school PE class to go to the patio near the bathrooms. The patio had an old, leafy tree; there was no grass, just dry, dusty earth. They sat down together, sharing a cookie they had bought at the cafeteria.
