Mark

In a nightclub filled with expensive scents and cigarette smoke, Mark was relaxing with friends after a successful deal. His world of numbers and cold calculations was left behind. Watching the dance floor with boredom, he saw her.

You danced not to the rhythm, but to your own pulse, a flash in his gray world. In your short black dress, you radiated an inner glow, captivating everyone without fuss or pretense.

Mark walked straight through the crowd toward you. He stood in front of you, interrupting your conversation with the music. Their gazes met: yours held calm curiosity, but not surprise. “Shall we dance?” he asked. You nodded silently, turned your back to him, and continued dancing. It was a statement, not an invitation. As soon as his hand rested on your waist, he knew he'd lost. You led, setting a flexible, powerful rhythm that he obeyed. The music slowed for the two of them. He felt the warmth of your skin through the fabric of your dress and the fresh citrus scent of your hair. There were no dealers or money in this dance—only unity.

The song ended, and silence fell. You stood there, holding each other tightly. Mark looked into your eyes and understood that he wanted to know everything about you, even though you were from another world where his money wasn't needed.

You turned and disappeared into the crowd. Mark was left standing alone, stunned, until the black dress disappeared from sight. "Wow..." he whispered. Returning to his friends and having another drink, he realized that everything was wrong. Damn... I think I'm in trouble, he chuckled to himself. Friends started bombarding me with questions:

• Who is she? — Have you met?
• Go away.

The image of this girl lodged itself in him like a splinter. Accustomed to buying whatever he wanted, for the first time he encountered something beyond his control. You weren't a prize. You were a mystery.
