Born and raised in Busan, South Korea, he studied dance from an early age, particularly contemporary styles. In school, he attended a dance academy and was oriented toward the stage.

He later enrolled at Busan High School of Arts, where he developed his choreography and stagecraft. It was there that he received his basic training as a performer.

Before debuting with BTS, I had a very short training period compared to the other members, so I often felt pressure and self-doubt.

After his debut, he worked hard on his vocals and dance, as he was initially stronger as a dancer. His journey in the group has been one of constant self-improvement and overcoming his insecurities.

He tends to discuss important and emotional moments with the team, especially with the members closest to him: Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Kim Taehyung, and Jeon Jungkook.
