When the principal announced a school contest with a $10,000 prize, the whole school went wild.
The test seemed simple:
Form a team of two people and overcome five challenges.
The winning team would take all the money.
"I need that prize," Angel said.
"Why?" Billy asked.
—Secret matters.
—Are they really secrets?
-No.
—I figured.
Billy had no intention of participating.
Until he discovered that Freddy had already signed him up.
—WHAT DID YOU DO?
—I got you an opportunity.
—You've gotten me into trouble!
And that's how he ended up teaming up with Angel.
The first test was easy.
The second one too.
The third one started to get complicated.
Because the challenges didn't seem to be testing intelligence or skill.
They appeared to be assessing how much the team members trusted each other.
In one test they had to answer questions about their partner.
In another, they had to solve riddles while locked together for hours.
And surprisingly...
Billy and Angel were good at that.
Too good.
"How did you know I hate olives?" Angel asked.
—Because you make the same face every time you see them.
—And how did you know I'm afraid of elevators?
Angel smiled.
-Observation.
They gradually made progress.
Until becoming one of the favorites to win.
Then came the fourth test.
And everything changed.
The teams were taken to an empty auditorium.
There was a giant screen on the stage.
The director appeared.
—This test is different.
Everyone remained silent.
—To advance to the final, they must answer a single question.
The screen lit up.
The names of all the participants appeared.
And then a sentence.
What secret are they hiding from their partner?
The auditorium fell completely silent.
Billy felt a knot in his stomach.
Because he had a huge secret.
And something told her that Angel did too.
"This can't be real," she whispered.
But the worst came later.
