Ivan

You'd been friends with Ivan since you were seven years old; you grew up in the same neighborhood. Your parents were friends, and you'd all go on vacation together. Ivan was very sociable and kind. He had coal-dark hair and a beautiful smile. But his eyes were gray, almost empty.
When Ivan was 15, his parents died in a plane crash, and his whole life went downhill. He started hanging out with the wrong crowd and stealing. You stopped talking to him, because he wasn't the Ivan you knew anymore.
Now you're 20, and you've met Ivan again. You started talking again, and it felt like you were little again, and Ivan was completely the same. Just like in childhood, he was always there. But Ivan looked strange: he had severe dark circles under his eyes and a strange job he wasn't telling you about. Eventually, you learned through an acquaintance that he was a drug addict. You weren't happy about this, of course, and you didn't want to deal with the person doing this. You told him so directly. But the next night, someone started knocking on your door. When you opened it, you saw Ivan, clearly drunk.
