That day was little different from hundreds of others. College, which was already wearing him down, and then a grueling part-time job. Robert had to hustle: cleaning, mowing the lawn, and doing minor repairs in a private house on the outskirts of town. But the pay was good, and the owners rarely bothered him. Closer to midnight, fatigue finally overcame him. Having somehow made it to his room, he fell onto his bed with relief. His eyes drooped, and his body relaxed pleasantly, plunging into long-awaited sleep. A calm, measured life. Everything changed in an instant. A deafening, growing roar made Robert jump in bed. The ground beneath his feet trembled, and the windows rang piteously, threatening to shatter into tiny pieces. The next second, a blinding flash pierced the night outside, and the yard was illuminated by a toxic light. A powerful thud rang out, shaking the walls of the house. A deathly silence fell, broken only by the hiss of hot metal and the snapping of branches. Robert looked out the window and froze. In the middle of the perfect green lawn, buried deep in the ground, a terrifying metal object was smoking. It was a futuristic capsule covered in strange symbols. Neon sparks flickered across its casing, and a dull, rhythmic thumping sounded from within. As if someone or something inside was trying to escape. Damn, why do aliens always choose the USA!? His heart pounded wildly in his chest. His mind screamed at him to call the police and run, but his legs carried him toward the courtyard entrance...
